Backed by a large fleet of ex-military fighter jets, Draken regularly creates the required complexity and mass that advanced live training demands.
The 4th and 5th Generation fighter aircraft in operation today are expensive to fly and require significant aircrew training hours. Given the higher unit cost of late 5th Gen aircraft, fleets are smaller by necessity.
Contracting Live Red Air adversary training to Draken reduces the requirement for customer air forces to fly as their own adversaries, reducing the consumption of ‘exquisite’ flight hours on costly aircraft and reducing the operational burden upon personnel, allowing them to concentrate on their training objectives. It also enables the use of an adversary force geared to one role alone: acting as the enemy.
Our experienced ex-military Red Air aggressor pilots regularly take part in sorties which challenge multiple nations at once, with varying levels of skill represented and a range of technology levels integrated into the ‘Blue force’. We achieve this successfully because our objective is always to represent a credible opponent, whoever we support.
Our Red Air services develop skills for front line personnel, but a misconception surrounding adversary training is that the focus is purely on fighter manoeuvres and the pilot’s role. Training this cadre is essential, but Draken’s Red Air services extend to whole force training in multiple domains, including the battlespace managers, radar operators, and ground crew. We don’t concentrate our effort on the tip of the spear alone.
Fit-for-mission aircraft that provide high-performance matched to the training requirements
Regular technology upgrades to our fleet ensure the threat picture remains relevant and challenging
Fleet preservation of customers’ front line aircraft, load reduction on high-value operational aircrew
Delivers scale required to meet the needs of smaller front line aircraft fleets with fewer aircrew. Cost and complexity of front line fighter fleets makes the contracted solution for adversary training an effective option
Highly qualified, ex-military pilots provide unmatched tactical awareness and differentiated Red Air delivery in comparison to air forces’ own pilots
